How do you make special food on sims 3?

My sim has read almost every culinary book there is and is like a great cook. He caught all kinds of fish and bought TONS of food like pork, steak, veggies, fruit, etc. and i can't figure out how ot get him to make stuff like steak, sushi, fish, etc. I basically just can't get him to work with his fish and goods he bought. Can you help me?
