Is going to culinary school a good idea for me?

I am in the military and have three more years left and would like to attend culinary school. I love cooking,but I have a family and also like spending time with them. Is becoming a chef a good idea and is it hard to find time for your family. Also would like to know top culinary schools available to me in the texas area...I have gi bill which would pay for all of it so money would not be a problem. thank you
