Is it necessary to say "you've been served" when serving child support papers to your ex?

is there some sort of legal issue where you must say that, or is it just for professional summons servers to say? may have watched too many shows and stuff, but i know even everyday people have it said to them, i was wondering if there's some sort of legal loophole a lawyer can find if i didnt say that, that the man wouldnt have to pay? basically, is it necessary to say that or can i just drop them off and bolt?
